Chojnow Forest
Division includes area located on the left side of Vistula river, southwest
by Warsaw. The Chojnow Forest Division was created in 1945 as a combination
of a part of Skuly Forest Division and nationalized private forests.
The area of state forests of Chojnow Forest
Division is 10 017 hectares, and the area of supervised private forests
is 4 489 hectares.
From 1967 to the present, the average wood
abundance has almost doubled, and now it's 232 m³/hectare. In the
same time, the average age of the forests has increased from 39 to 57
years.
The most important tree species are:
pine (75,2%), oak (7,9%), birch (8,2%), alder (5,3%), trembling poplar
(1,6%) and other (1,8%). Protective forests are 93,4% of Chojnow's total
forest area.
This screening
green surrounding Warsaw, supplies the city with fresh air, and makes
the opportunity to the citizens for outdoor and recreation.
The Chojnow's forests gives also raw materials,
with annual wood production of 27 000 m³, which in 85% is derived
from improvement cuttings.
On a part of a Chojnow Forest Division,
Chojnowski Landscape Park is located. There is also 14 partial reserves
with 291 hectares of total area. There is great variety of wildlife in
the forests: reptiles (like grass-snakes and blind-worms), rare birds
(like goshawks, sparrowhawks, buzzards, kingfishers and black storks),
and interesting mammals (hedgehogs, badgers and pine martens). And a big
diversity of amphibians exist in the Zielona river. Curious plants are
represented by club-moss, lily, primrose, lily of the valley, twayblade
and columbine.
For tourists we've
prepared a camping place "Zimne Doly" located on Zielona's bank (4 km
far from Piaseczno and 3 km far from Zalesie Gorne) and several parkings:
2 near Sekocin (equipped with sheds and banks), 1 in Walendow, 1 in Otrebusy
and 1 on the road from Piaseczno to Gora Kalwaria - in Stefanow.
The most dangerous
for the forests are irresponsible tourists. They are frequent cause of
fire, that outbreaks about 40 times a year.
